Horizontal stargates (lying down) would be quite cool. As the logic regarding all and exit locations would be different, some care is necessary.
Additionally, the button placement could be challenging. It might be possible to only use it as a special kind of gate which is only always on where you jump in to teleport, and is dropped towards the floor when exiting.
The backwards option wouldn't make any sense as you'd teleport infinitely. Bungee gates or random gates could work. I'm not sure how well vehicle teleportation would work.
As the sign would need to be placed on "the outside", all normal directions would be changed.

Using the "back left corner" as a starting point, all relative vectors would go outwards and to the right instead of down and to the right.
